The Sad Reason Robert Plant Is Struggling To Write Music
I the history of music, few acts have been as important as Led Zeppelin. The band got the ’70s started with a bang, and their relentless pursuit of rock glory gave way to some of the most iconic recordings in history, as well as a number of controversies.
The band’s singer, Robert Plant, has yet to slow down, but these days, it’s getting harder and harder to write, something that the frontman has been candid about.
Let’s hear what Robert Plant had to say about his writing struggles, and what he’s been up to lately!
Robert Plant Struggles To Find New Words When Writing Music
When you’ve been writing music and lyrics for as long as Robert Plant has, it can become tricky to write something that’s both meaningful and previously unsaid. As it were, the former Led Zeppelin frontman has been having some trouble writing music at this stage of his career.
When speaking to Rolling Stone, Plant opened up about writing music.
“I’ve got a Tascam digital recorder, and I sing, and I put the vocals through a guitar pedal, and then I record them… and it sounds great,” Plant said. “Why bother to go to the studio,” he said.
He then went on to talk about the difficulty he has had finding new words.
“But I can’t find words. This is a very difficult time to try and wax lyrical out there. The camaraderie, the things that you share up there, and the frailties that you know you’re carrying with you quietly, the exposure of yourself to yourself, is something that I would hate to say goodbye to. I can’t just sit back
During that interview, the singer even dished on keeping progress moving, even if it means looking back at his old words.
“Today, I was pulling all my lyric books out and going, ‘Gotta get the groove back. I’ve got something to say.’ So yeah, I’m going to keep going — as long as they’ve got effects machines that make me sound good! Well, it worked for Elvis! Listen to the compression on his voice on some of those big ballads in ’57,” he added.
For those following, Plant has been making music in a band, just not Led Zeppelin.
Robert Plant Has Been Working With His New Band, Saving Grace
Saving Grace is the band that Robert Plant has been whipping up new music with. No, they’re not Led Zeppelin, but it’s clear that Plant has a passion to work with the group.
In August 2023, Plant announced that the band was set to release music.
“Robert Plant will release his first music with new band Saving Grace, giving everyone who purchases a ticket to the November UK tour a digital copy of the song “As I Roved Out”.
The band have been performing together since 2019 but have not yet officially released any music, despite having already recorded an album and Plant trademarking the band name for music and merchandise,” Led Zep News reported.
That record has yet to see the light of day, minus some live recordings.
It’s a work in progress for Plant, but let’s not pretend that he isn’t already enjoying quite the legacy.
