Report: Eddie Van Halen Spent Last Week In The Hospital Due To Bad Reaction to Cancer Drugs
All of us here at Metal Injection are rooting for you, Eddie.
Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen has reportedly been battle throat cancer once again. He was originally diagnosed in 2000, given the all-clear in 2002, and has recently been flying back and forth between the U.S. and Germany to once again undergo treatment.
This situation has not yet been confirmed or denied by Eddie or his management, but in a recent interview, Toto guitarist Steve Lukather said about Van Halen “I think they’re on a hiatus. There’s been some health issues that they’re dealing with and stuff like that.”
A photo surfaced of Eddie looking like a regular dude a few weeks ago, and some fans were concerned. Well, a new report by TMZ, says according to sources, Eddie checked into a hospital last week for a few days over complications from the medicine he’s taking to deal with his cancer treatment.
Sources close to the legendary guitarist tell TMZ … he was admitted to the hospital last week with intestinal issues and abdominal pain. We’re told both were the result of a bad reaction to the drugs Eddie is taking to battle throat cancer.
He was released Sunday and we’re told he’s doing fine now.
In an interview with WRIF “Meltdown” in September, Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth said “I think Van Halen’s finished and this is the next phase” in reference to his Las Vegas residency. Roth added “I’ve inherited the band de facto — whatever that means. I think it means if you inherit it, carry this proudly. Van Halen isn’t gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know. And that being said, Eddie’s [Van Halen] got his own story to tell. [It’s] not mine to tell it.”
