Commanders Coach Reveals Plan For Naming Starting QB
With longtime owner Daniel Snyder now officially out of the picture and the team able to move forward with the progressive approach of Josh Harris and his ownership group, the future could be bright for the Washington Commanders, especially after the storied franchise brought in rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Although there was much debate over who the Commanders should select with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Washington didn’t waste any time deciding that Daniels was their guy moving forward.
With the start of the 2024 NFL season right around the corner, the one question everyone seems to be asking new head coach Dan Quinn is when will the rookie officially be named Washington’s starting quarterback.
On “Up & Adams,” Quinn was asked by host Kay Adams when he’ll name Daniels the starter, and even though the coach didn’t give a specific timetable, it seems like something that is inevitable.
“He’s getting the work that I wanted,” Quinn said. “That’s the No. 1 thing, Kay, to ensure he’s getting the work with the first group. He’s getting the timing. He’s getting the stuff to go. I just wanted to be sure we didn’t miss one step of it. … He’s off to a remarkable start.”
At this point, the Commanders can’t go wrong with Daniels as their starter in Week 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as he’s the future face of the franchise, and the team wants to win sooner rather than later.
However, Daniels’ big risk is that his style of play makes him more likely to get injured, so he’ll be a player closely monitored by everyone right out of the gate in Washington.
