LIVE NRL: Finals hopes on the line as Warriors strike first in must-win Tigers clash
The Warriors have struck first in their must-win clash with the Wests Tigers to shoot out to a 4-0 lead thanks to Kurt Capewell.
Finals are on the line for the Warriors, who need to win to start building some momentum — and keep their top eight hopes alive.
Capewell cruised over untouched, however Chanel Harris-Tavita — whose goal-kicking proved to be a problem last week — couldn’t convert.
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is back in the No.1 jersey as his Warriors host the Wests Tigers in a must-win clash to keep their finals hopes alive.
The Warriors’ backline was forced into a reshuffle this week after fill-in fullback Taine Tuaupiki suffered a head knock during their loss to the Raiders in Round 20.
That means Tuivasa-Sheck returns to the position he won a Dally M in while Edward Kosi joins the wing and Moala Graham-Taufa comes into the centres for Adsm Pompey (knee).
It’s mixed news for the Tigers. Star hooker and captain Api Koroisau returns from a calf complaint, while Isaiah Papali’i is back on deck after missing the last eight weeks with an ankle injury. But veteran playmaker Aidan Sezer is sidelined through suspension.
After initially naming Latu Fainu at halfback, coach Benji Marshall pulled a late switch moving Koroisau to the halves and bumping Fainu to the bench. Tallyn Da Silva will start at hooker.
Meanwhile, Papali’i will start on the bench with Alex Twal promoted to lock in what is his 150th NRL game.
Adam Doueihi is being rested this week with Starford To’a taking his place in the centres. The in-form Fonua Pole replaces David Klemmer (ankle) at prop, while Reuben Porter starts following John Bateman’s mid-season exit to the Super League.
The Tigers are hoping to snap a four-game losing streak, but history is not on their side with the Warriors winning the last six time these two clubs have faced off.
