SAD NEWS: Canadiens key player has been suspended for 15 games due to……

Canadiens’ Kaiden Guhle was suspended for one game for slashing Flyers’ Travis Konecny.
The National Hockey League (NHL) Department of Player Safety announced that Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle will serve a one-game suspension for slashing Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konency during Thursday night’s 4-1 victory.

The incident occurred when Guhle was hit hard by Konency in the corner; as Guhle went to the bench, he retaliated by slashing Konecny from the Canadiens bench.

During the post-game press conference, Flyers veteran Garnet Hathaway addressed the incident. “The officials told us they didn’t see anything, but I feel like the league is going to review the sequence,” Hathaway said.

Guhle has six goals and 15 assists for 21 points in 68 games this season for the Habs. He has 112 hits, ranking fourth among Habs skaters, and leads all Habs skaters with 177 blocked shots.

The Sherwood Park, Alberta native was selected No. 16 overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by Montreal and is now in his second season with the Habs. He has 39 points in 110 career NHL games. Prior to joining Montreal, he played well in junior hockey for the Prince Albert Raiders and Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League. During the 2021-22 season, he was named Raiders captain and was traded to the Oil Kings at the WHL trade deadline, where he won his second WHL championship and scored eight goals and 16 points in 19 WHL Playoff games.

Montreal could be without Guhle as they prepare to face Jake Guentzel and the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. The Habs are currently eighth in the Atlantic Division, with a 28-31-12 record and 68 points in 72 games. According to Daily Faceoff’s draft lottery odds tracker, Montreal is sixth with a 7.6% chance of winning the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.
