Another injury-filled season leaves the Canadiens tapping their reserves.
The Montreal Canadiens’ revolving door of injuries requires prospects to be ready to step up when called upon.
Rafael Harvey-Pinard is the latest Montreal player to be placed on injured reserve, resulting in more AHL callups for the Canadiens. Defenseman Jayden Struble was an early callup for the Habs and quickly established himself as a regular on the blue line.
In recent weeks, fans have seen Brandon Gignac and Joshua Roy enter and exit the lineup. And, with Kaiden Guhle and Jordan Harris both recently leaving a game due to injury, the need for another defenseman appears to be on the horizon.
To better understand why certain prospects are recalled over others, review their AHL and NHL statistics. What have they done in Laval this year to warrant a call from the NHL? How have they performed since arriving in Montreal? How long might their current NHL stint last?
Plus, even though Guhle seems to have weathered his potential injury pretty well, the jury is still out on Harris’ return to play. If another rearguard were needed from the Rocket, which one(s) would likely be selected – and why?
On this week’s episode of Habs Hockey Report, I take a closer ‘by-the-numbers’ look at two prospects already playing with Montreal and two prospects likely to be the next wave of recalls should the need arise.
