GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter Neil Diamond announced on Monday that he is retiring from touring and performing, in light of a recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.

The 76-year-old musician, known for penning hits such as “Sweet Caroline,” “I’m A Believer,” and “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon,” made the announcement via a press release posted to his website, also stating that he would be cancelling the third and final leg of his 50th Anniversary Tour – originally set to hit Australia and New Zealand this March – per advice from his physician.

“It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. I have been so honored to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years,” said Diamond in the statement. “My sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows.”

Diamond also added that he plans “to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come.”

Across his prolific career, Diamond’s talent as a songwriter has earned critical praise and numerous awards, including induction into both the Songwriters Hall Of Fame and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. In 2009, he was honored as the MusiCares Person Of The Year for his career achievements and philanthropic work. This year he will receive the Recording Academy’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award alongside Tina Turner, Queen, Emmylou Harris, Louis Jordan, the Meters, and Hal Blaine.
