Shelf crash: Tributes for “lovely boy” Joe Walsh who died after his car hit a wall in Calderdale village
Flowers, balloons, candles and ribbons have been left with messages of love for the 19-year-old, named locally as Joe Walsh.
As reported by the Courier, Joe was driving a white Seat Ibiza down Brow Lane in Shelf when it hit a wall late on Friday night.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Some of the tributes piled high where the accident happened include one which says: “You were such a lovely boy, loved by many.
“Taken way too soon. Rest in perfect paradise.”
Another says: “Rest easy brother. Fly high.”
One says: “Gone way too soon but you will never be forgotten.”
And one says: “Never did I think I’d be doing this, especially not for you, but God only takes the best and you certainly are the best.
“I’m going to miss raving with you so much. Nothing will be the same.”
Another says: “There’s a neon bright star shining in our sky tonight.
“Gone too soon. Rest in peace Joe.”
Another man who was in the car with Joe – aged 18 – was taken to hospital in a critical condition which police said on Saturday was “thought to be life-threatening”.
Four others who had been in the car were also taken to hospital. Police have described their injuries as “not believed to be life-threatening”.
Police are appealing for anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the crash, which happened shortly before 11.17pm, or lives near Halifax Road and Brow Lane to check their dashcam or CCTV for any footage that might help the police investigation.
Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the white Seat Ibiza on Halifax Road or being driven in the area before the accident.
