Wilson, a striker, is among three players released by Port Vale.
Port Vale are releasing out-of-contract trio James Wilson, Jayson Leutwiler, and Gavin Massey following the club’s relegation to League 2.

Wilson, a former Manchester United striker, led Vale in scoring in all competitions during his first season in 2021-22, including a goal in the League Two play-off final against Mansfield Town.

Leutwiler, an ex-Canada international, joined the Valiants on a one-year contract from Oldham Athletic at the start of the season but has yet to appear in a league game.

Massey, a winger, joined Vale after their promotion and has three goals and four assists in 81 league appearances.
Vale are negotiating new contracts with left-back Deklan Wynne and striker Uche Ikpeazu, while Andrew Buah, Arron Davies, Jack Shorrock, and Rhys Walters have been offered first-year professional contracts.

“Conversations will take place in the coming weeks and days, and we’ll see if we can get them signed for next season,” manager Darren Moore told BBC Radio Stoke after Vale finished second-bottom with a 0-0 draw at home to Cambridge United on Saturday.

“The clock is ticking for the next season, and we have some work to do.” We want to bring in the right players who can propel the team forward.

“We conceded too many goals and did not score enough goals, which was obvious in terms of team dynamics.”

Since Moore’s appointment in February, Vale has won two and lost eleven of their seventeen matches.
