5-star quarterback commits to Florida State on his unofficial visit this weekend…

Florida State Football Recruiting: 2026 quarterback Brady Smigiel commits - Tomahawk Nation

Florida State football’s coaching staff expected several highly-touted prospects on campus in Tallahassee this weekend.

Many of the recruits were from the 2025 recruiting cycle. Many of the Seminole fans focused solely on that classification of prospects.

It is noteworthy to monitor them since the Seminoles rank as the 70th-best recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Fans are beginning to become weary with arch-rivals Miami and Florida getting commitments.

The Seminoles have not secured a pledge in the 2025 class since four-star defensive end Javion Hilson flipped from Alabama back in January when legendary head football coach Nick Saban retired.

The program itself has a combined 23-4 record over the past two seasons. Head football coach Mike Norvell has put his mark on the program with sustainable success. You would think that the winning culture would attract highly-touted prospects to the university.

On Saturday afternoon, things went in a positive direction as Class of 2026 five-star quarterback Brady Smigiel from Newbury Park, California committed to Florida State. We wrote on Smigiel recently about him taking an unofficial visit with the Seminoles this weekend.

The talented signal-caller has been on the radar for the Seminoles’ coaching staff for quite some time as Florida State offered him back on January 17, 2023. Even with Smigiel being from California, this is the second time in two months that he has visited Florida State.

I realize that some people discount 2026 prospects, but this is a huge deal for the Seminoles’ future foundation of the program. During his two seasons as a starter at Newbury Park, Smigiel has recorded 7,701 yards with 98 touchdowns and only 25 interceptions.

The Seminoles have a strong core at the quarterback position for the future in Brock Glenn, Luke Kromenhoek, Trever Jackson, Tramell Jones Jr. (if he sticks with his commitment), and now Brady Smigiel. The coaching staff has found their stride when it comes to quarterback recruiting.
